The unspoken secret about your brain nobody talks about.

The SpoonFed Ideas Newsletter

Every Sunday, I promise to give you three things.

  • One idea.
  • One action.
  • One update.

All to supercharge your life and help you make use of the short time you have here.

the idea.

Algorithmic complacency. It describes a state we all fall into by default - a state of passive consumption. Your youtube, your instagram, your newsfeed. Wherever you get your information, you’ve pretty much relinquished all control to some computer program to dictate what you see, hear or learn.

This problem is much more fundamental actually because algorithmic complacency describes your brain as well. The things you ruminate on; the things you dwell on - your brain algorithm sees that and thinks,

"Oh nice! You like feeling shitty about yourself! Your thoughts are filled with nothing but self-disrespect. Awesome. Duly noted sir. I know to serve you more of that stuff tomorrow."

Neurologically, it makes sense right? Your brain strengthens the neuronal pathways you use most so as to make it even easier for you to access these tracks the next time.

Be honest, how would you rate the quality of your Feed?

If someone were to sit in your skull and observe the thoughts passing through, would you be proud of what they get to see? Don’t worry, no one’s going to talk about your weird obsession with feet. This is apparently becoming more widely accepted now so you are in good company.

Anyway, I think of your "Brain Feed" as the downstream consequence of three important junctures.

  • What you feed it.
  • What you focus on.
  • What you do.

If you feed your brain crap, your brain then feeds you crappy thoughts in exchange too. It’s one big crappy tit for tat cycle.

This is probably the easiest, and most visible lever you can pull on. Imagine you never watched another Tik Tok video again. You ensure that the only thing that comes out of your phone are thoughts from the greatest thinkers of all time. Marcus Aurelius, Socrates, Epicurus, Snoop Dogg.

If that were the case, your brain’s current feed of...

“...boo hoo, why didn’t Becky call me back? I miss her fat ass

would be quickly replaced with...

“...despite Becky’s gluteal to waist ratio being exquisitely proportioned, it is unfortunate she does not feel the same way. I will devote my energies elsewhere and respect Becky’s agency in the matter.

And just like that, you no longer dwell on outcomes outside of your control. With the greatest humans to have ever lived now as your personal mentors, you are wise enough to move on and focus on something that is within the locus of your control, the second lever. Maybe that's becoming someone of value; becoming outcome independent.

And as you start to transform your Feed with thoughts of higher agency, you're ready when someone with an equally proportioned gluteal to waist ratio of your liking appears. That's coincidentally when the ghost of Socrates and Epicurus both appear in your Feed, whispering some wise shit: "Go f*ck shit up dawg. Your demise is forthcoming."

And so, despite the other 90% of thoughts that are way less helpful, you still end up conquering your fear with real action, the third lever. By doing, you give your brain real evidence. I don't care my number one viral video is "I'm not good enough." I'm in control. I choose what I click on. I choose what happens in the real world.

And then because you've pulled all three levers, next time, that paralyzing thought of self-doubt will be a little bit lower on your Feed's home page. Perhaps one day it will even be replaced with a different one entirely...

"hey... maybe I can do this."

the action.

And so, pull these three levers today. Curate your digital feed, focus on a thought you deem worthy of your attention and then go act upon it. Create real evidence with your actions and make the thought count in the real world.

Anytime I'm about to consume a piece of content or make a decision, I ask myself: how is this going to influence my Brain Feed today? Is watching this or doing this going to increase the quality of this feed or is it just going to make me think of Becky’s fat ass?

the update.

If you haven’t seen it already, the newest video is out! If you’ve been wanting to elevate your productivity and adopt a system built to help you get more done in 90-days than most people do in an entire year, go check it out now. Because we talk about so many concepts in this video, I’ve created two more resources to help you on this journey.

One is the long-form deeper dive located on my substack and two is the notion template that walks you through the entire system. Just plug and play.

The whole template keeps track of all your tasks and breaks down your ultimate vision into weekly and daily tasks… and not just random tasks, tasks that really move the needle. I've created a formula on the template that calculates how “effective” your week is. On there, I also help you build a step-by-step emergency kit to tackle when you feel most overwhelmed.

At any rate, hope this email brought some tangible benefit to your life. And if not, womp womp.
